AVCLabs Review – Video Enhancer AI Upscaling Software (2024)

AVCLabs review

Key Takeaways:

  • AVCLabs is a great video upscaling program, and I absolutely recommend it – especially if you are a beginner or need a budget option.
  • While I think Topaz creates the highest-quality upscaled videos, AVCLabs is a close second, mainly because the quality is good, but it’s quite a bit cheaper!
  • Both Topaz and AVCLabs are downloadable to your computer, though – if you need a cloud-based video upscaler, I recommend Pixop.

Have some videos that need a refresh and a polish?

And you’re wondering if AVCLabs is the best video enhancer software for your problem?

But… is it the best bang for your buck?

Legit questions!

As a fellow indie filmmaker, I feel ya – stock footage can be a hit or miss. That’s where AI upscaling swoops in, making any footage look top-notch. AVCLabs can be used for filmmakers or for anyone with home movies or even cell phone footage that they want to make look sharp and clean.

So, I took one for the team and gave AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI a spin. In this review, I threw all kinds of old footage at it to see whether it’s a yay or nay. You’re welcome!

Pros: What’s Great About AVCLabs

  • Flexible payment plans: Whether you want to pay monthly, annually, or a one-time fee – there’s something for every user.
  • Simple interface: Fairly straightforward process; an easy-to-use interface that doesn’t require any prior editing experience.
  • Cool features: Other than great upscaling ability, AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI has several other features, including Colorize, which adds color to black-and-white videos. (Pretty neat!)
  • Offline editing: Download the program to use on the go without needing to connect to wifi.

Cons: What Could Be Improved

  • Powerful software: AVCLabs suggests that the user needs an HD integrated graphics card to keep up with all the powerful tools.
  • Comparison view: After seeing the amazing comparison view tools on Topaz AI, it was a letdown to see that you can only preview a 1-second comparison before doing a long export.

Quick Verdict – Is AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI Worth the Money?

After testing out several AI video-enhancing software programs, I can confirm that AVCLabs is worth the money!

In addition to enhanced video, you also get access to other features like:

  • Face enhancement to recover faces from blurry and noisy videos
  • The ability to add color to black-and-white footage beautifully
  • Slow down the footage up to 8x the regular speed for super smooth and buttery footage
  • Trim and crop your original video to make it perfect before adding effects

I really love that there’s a diversity of prices ranging from $39.95 – $199.90, so there’s multiple options for users with all kinds of budgets.

Personally, I love any program that lets me have lifetime access for a one-time fee.

But if you’re not a filmmaker like me, then maybe you’d only need to buy it for a couple of months to upscale your home videos or social media clips.

AVCLabs also offers a 5-day money-back guarantee, so you can always get a refund if it turns out to not work very well with your particular footage.

Pay Monthly: $39.99/month | Pay Yearly: $119.99/year | Lifetime Plan: $199.90

AVCLabs Video Enhancer offers a similar video upscaling service to Topaz. It's got fast processing times and high-quality results (almost as good as Topaz, but not quite). It also features a world-leading AI Face Enhancement tool for videos, which makes it great for upscaling old home movies.

While both services offer high-quality results, AVCLabs may be a better choice for those who don't need a long-term AI enhancer or for those on a budget. They offer a full range of pricing options, starting with a monthly plan.

My Experience Using AVCLabs

AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI Editing Interface

Even though AVCLabs didn’t come with a tutorial, I found it pretty easy to use from the get-go.

It’s pretty similar to the Topaz Video AI interface and has some extra features like Trim and Crop for minor editing.

AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI Presets

AVCLabs makes it super easy for you with lots of preset options, like upscaling video by 200%, converting to HD resolution, 4x slow motion, and converting to 60 fps. Also pretty similar to Topaz AI!

AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI Features

It also comes with a bunch of other cool features besides the AI Enhancement. AVCLabs offers Face Enhancement, Colorize, Motion Compensation, and regular Video Settings to tweak the basic brightness and contrast before you start upscaling.

*Pro Tip: I tested out the Face Enhancement feature on a clip with a really blurry face, and it ended up making them look super creepy. If you want to use that feature, make sure the facial features have some definition and clarity to start with.

AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI Comparison Screen

As you export your new clip, it plays the two videos side by side so you can compare the quality. But once it’s done exporting, the project closes and you can’t view the videos side by side again. You’ll need to start a new project.

AVCLabs had a great upscaling result overall! You could definitely see a difference with the words in the video.

Final Thoughts: Should You Buy AVCLabs?

There you have it! If you’re looking for a great way to upscale your lower-quality videos, then AVCLabs is worth checking out. Not only will you achieve better results with your videos, but you’ll also be able to do so without breaking the bank.

They have a ton of great features and I love that they have a 5-day money-back guarantee, just in case it doesn’t work for your footage.

I will say that if you’re a filmmaker, or you’re looking to buy an upscaling program for a one-time fee, then I do recommend Topaz over AVCLabsbecause it did a slightly better job at making my blurry footage more clear.

AVCLabs Alternatives

1. Topaz Video Enhance AI

Best AI Video Upscaling Software
Topaz Video Enhance AI Topaz Video Enhance AI

Topaz Video Enhance AI is the biggest competitor to AVCLabs - they're both great for upscaling video quality! AVCLabs has more flexible pricing options than Topaz (and it is more affordable overall), but Topaz is known to be the best software for upscaling video resolution.

Not only did I feel like Topaz gave more clarity to my sample videos, but I really thought their comparison views made the overall experience better. While in AVCLabs, you could render one second of the clip to see side-by-side before exporting, with Topaz, you could render the entire clip to preview side-by-side first.

Either way, you can't go wrong!
