Pixop Review

Key Takeaways:

  • Pixop is a fantastic upscaling tool if you need a cloud-based tool (e.g., if you use a Chromebook or have an older computer).
  • It’s very budget-friendly if you don’t have too many videos to upscale – the minimum credits you can buy is $10, and those will go a long way!
  • It’s pretty easy and intuitive to use – even a beginner can do it (just go with their pre-determined filters!).

Looking for top-quality video upscaling software? Check out Pixop!

Pixop is an AI-powered video remastering software that uses AI to upscale your videos to an incredible level of quality.

As an indie filmmaker myself, I often need help from an AI upscaling program to make my stock footage the same high-quality resolution as the footage I shot.

So, I figured I’d give Pixop a shot!

In this Pixop review, I really dug deep into all the advanced features and even tested a few of my own low-resolution clips with it to see if it lives up to the hype.

What’s Great About Pixop

  • Simple interface: Pixop’s interface is almost so simple that it’s confusing. Once you know where everything is, it’ll be impossible to forget it. But I’d recommend watching a short tutorial first!
  • Comparison view: I love that you can compare the before and after videos side-by-side on Pixop. It also stores the exported video on your profile, so you can always access it if you need to.
  • Great for teams: Since Pixop is a web-based program, you can share logins with your team to easily get the videos to everyone. Pixop also has a great organizational system with folders to structure your content.
  • Pay-as-you-go: Pixop has a pay-as-you-go pricing method, making it really affordable if you only have a few videos to upscale. But if you have video footage with a long runtime, then it might not be your cup of tea.

What Could Be Improved About Pixop

  • Filter descriptions: While there was an impressive list of filters I could add to my footage, there was no description as to what these filters did. I had to go back to their homepage to find where they describe the features.
  • Expensive for long videos: Since Pixop is pay-as-you-go, you use credits to upscale videos based on the length and the amount of filters you add. So if you have long videos to upscale, the price could add up quick.

Quick Verdict – Is Pixop Worth the Money?

After trying all the top AI video upscaling software, I’ve decided that Pixop is an excellent option for people who like a pay-as-you-go model.

If you only have a few shorter videos to upscale, it’s a great choice to check out the software with little risk.

Not only does Pixop turn your blurry, lower-quality footage into clear high-quality resolutions, but it also:

  • Trims your videos easily without you needing access to any professional video editing programs
  • Evaluates your video and gives it a score of up to five for a complete video quality analysis
  • Converts your video into various formats, so you can play it smoothly on any device
  • Has various pre-built filters to add to your videos that can unblur, stabilize, and more

Overall, Pixop is a great, easy-to-use AI upscaling solution that can increase the quality of any video.

It’s also cloud-based, so you won’t need a powerful computer to run the program.

Who Should Use Pixop?

Social Media Content Creators

Pixop is perfect for social media video creators who want to take their content to the next level. No matter what phone you’re using to create your social clips, Pixop can make your videos look like they were shot with a high-end camera.

Production Company Owners

Production companies are able to use all of Pixop’s team features and have multiple users on their team.

Some Filmmakers

I say certain filmmaker because if you’re trying to upscale a whole movie, then Pixop will probably cost a lot actually.

But if you’re an indie filmmaker like me, I usually only have a few short b-roll clips that I need to upscale per project, so the pay-as-you-go comes out super cheap.

Who Should Not Use Pixop?

People With Long Videos to Upscale

Honestly, I think Pixop is basically great for anyone who has short videos or who has a big budget. Otherwise, if you want to upscale a 30-minute home video from the 1950s… I would advise getting a cheaper monthly subscription plan, like AVCLabs Video Enhancer AI.

Let’s take a deeper look into Pixop’s filters you can use.

Pixop Deep Restoration automatically de-blurs videos, reduces compression artifacts, and adds details into low-quality footage. Add it to any blurry or compressed video to make it watchable again.

Pixop Super Resolution

Pixop Super Resolution specifically upscales videos to higher resolutions, with significantly better results than classic interpolation techniques.

The “Pixop Sharpness” filter can further improve the sharpness even more.

Pixop Denoiser

Pixop denoiser filter

Pixop Denoiser helps to reduce digital noise, making it a great way to take footage from grainy to crystal-clear. The filter also reduces Gaussian noise, minor jittering, and aliasing artifacts while keeping the video’s definition and details.

Pixop Dejitterer

Pixop Dejitterer repairs scan lines that have become displaced during the video-to-digital conversion process. This filter will stabilize and re-align horizontal scanlines, compensating for the effects of minor jitter artifacts.

Pixop Frame Rate Conversion

Pixop Face Forward helps to even out face lighting and blurs the background, making the subject of the video stand out. The filter also adjusts color balance, giving the video a more natural look.

Pixop Pricing

how Pixop pricing works

Pixop has a pay-as-you-go pricing model.

When you upload your video to Pixop, it will calculate how many processing credits you will need to upscale it. The minimum amount you can purchase processing credits for is $10, which is generally non-refundable.

The amount of credits it takes will depend on multiple factors like the video length and desired filters.

My Experience Using Pixop

pixop interface

Pixop’s interface is a very basic and straightforward web page.

First, I uploaded my original video and it gave me all the metadata for it.

Pixop factory presets and video quality analysis

Click on ‘Process’ to make changes to your clip.

The first set of options are the factory presets, which include options like enhanced HD, enhanced UHD 4K, HQ input, handheld enhanced, etc.

It also gave me a video quality analysis of my clip (2.0/5), which it determined based on the noise, details and colors. I’m not 100% sure exactly what this score means, but I think the higher the score, the more effective the filters and presets will be.

I selected ‘Enhanced HD’ preset and then went through the upper tabs to find more filters.

Pixop Filters

The one-worded filters confused me a bit as there was no description as to what they did. I had to go back to Pixop’s homepage to find a list of the filter descriptions – so I didn’t love that I had to go find that somewhere else. But I’m sure once you get familiar with the platform, that wouldn’t be a problem.

Pixop compare versions

After I waited for the export to process, it showed up here on the main page under ‘Versions.’

Then, I clicked the on each version where it says ‘Compare,’ followed by the ‘Compare’ button on the top right.

Pixop comparison view

Pixop pulled up this comparison screen where it had a bunch of still images from the video. There’s a slider bar in the middle where you can slide it across the screen to see the original video on the left compared to the enhanced video on the right side.

There’s a ‘Video comparison’ button on the top left that plays the video through with the slider bar instead of just the still images.

From here, you can download the video onto your computer or leave it on Pixop to download another day, or send it to someone else on your team.

Review of Pixop AI Video Upscaling

Final Thoughts: Pixop Review

If you’re looking for a way to improve the quality of your video without spending a lot of money, Pixop is definitely worth considering.

It’s upscaling abilities were pretty on par with other reputable AI upscaling software I tried, but Pixop has the added bonus of being a cloud-based service, so you can get started without installing any software, and the pay-as-you-go model can be pretty cheap if you only have a few short videos to upscale.

But if you think enhancing videos is something you’re needing to do for the long-haul, then I would suggest looking at other AI upscaling programs that have a yearly or one-time fee.

1. Topaz Video Enhance AI

Best AI Video Upscaling Software
Topaz Video Enhance AI Topaz Video Enhance AI

Topaz Video Enhance AI is the biggest competitor to AVCLabs - they're both great for upscaling video quality! AVCLabs has more flexible pricing options than Topaz (and it is more affordable overall), but Topaz is known to be the best software for upscaling video resolution.

Not only did I feel like Topaz gave more clarity to my sample videos, but I really thought their comparison views made the overall experience better. While in AVCLabs, you could render one second of the clip to see side-by-side before exporting, with Topaz, you could render the entire clip to preview side-by-side first.

Either way, you can't go wrong!

AVCLabs Video Enhancer offers a similar video upscaling service to Topaz. It's got fast processing times and high-quality results (almost as good as Topaz, but not quite). It also features a world-leading AI Face Enhancement tool for videos, which makes it great for upscaling old home movies.

While both services offer high-quality results, AVCLabs may be a better choice for those who don't need a long-term AI enhancer or for those on a budget. They offer a full range of pricing options, starting with a monthly plan.
