What is VEED.io?

VEED.io is a video editing platform that allows you to create and share short and long-form videos suitable for social media, podcasts, YouTube, ads, and more. It’s browser-based, so you don’t need to download the software. You can use VEED on any browser and mobile phone, making it highly accessible.

You can add text, stickers, images, or subtitles to the video, crop it, trim its length, and draw on it. Also, VEED allows you to record your screen, do a live stream using your webcam, and transcribe audio or video to text.

The platform also makes exporting and sharing your videos easy. You can get your videos by downloading the finished edit or sharing the video online with collaborators for quick access.

In short, VEED is a beginner-friendly video editing software that works especially well for video creators who want to live stream directly in the app and edit the video immediately afterward. It also works great for auto-subtitles using AI. It’s fantastic for any of your beginner to intermediate video creation needs.

Who Created VEED.io?

Creative developers Sabba Keynejad and Timur “Tim” Mamedov co-founded VEED.

They found the available editing platforms in the market complex and time-consuming, so they created a simple but powerful online video editor suitable for everyone. Both quit their full-time jobs to pursue VEED.

VEED Alternatives

Having similar features to VEED, the following platforms are good alternatives:

  1. invideo (you can check out my full review of invideo here! I think that invideo is easier to use for beginners)
  2. Filmora Wondershare (cheaper than VEED and does many of the same things)
  3. Lumen5 (a premium editing option)
  4. Descript (best for podcasters)
  5. Camtasia (better for larger businesses)

My Experience With VEED

When creating a free account and starting a new project with Veed, you have the option to start a blank project or choose from one of their many pre-designed templates.

They did have a wide variety of templates to choose from, but customizing the templates wasn’t as user-friendly as other sites I’ve tried – the layout on the timeline made it hard to tell which layer was which, and it was a little confusing trying to change the images and videos in the templates.

VEED Review templates

If you decide to start a blank project, it really is blank, and you need to go through the options on the left side to figure out how you want to start creating your video.

On some other platforms, it was easier to start a project depending on what type of content I already had – like if I had text, a longer video, or other footage ready. But on VEED, you have to find a way to insert the content you have already.

VEED review start from scratch

On the ‘Media’ tab, you can add stock videos and stock music to your timeline. Just beware that a lot of the stock footage is only available to paid users.

VEED text to speech

In the ‘Audio’ tab, you can upload audio or add text-to-speech. You could use this option if you’re trying to turn a blog post into a video – copy and paste the text and then it has an AI voice reading the text.

But again, if you’re using the free option, you can only add 250 characters of text, which is quite limiting.

If you now want to turn this audio into captions, you can go to the ‘Subtitles’ section and transcribe the audio to captions.

VEED transcribe feature

It did take me a minute to figure out how to create captions from the audio since a lot of other platforms let me do this all in one step instead of having to complete two separate sections to create the captions.

VEED captions

Veed does have a nice variety of preset styles for the captions and ones that highlight the words as they’re being said, which is a nice engaging style.

VEED subtitles

In the ‘Text’ section, there’s a variety of animated titles and text that you can easily add to your video and customize.

Next, in the ‘Elements’ section, you can add different graphic elements, shapes, and emojis. When adding the emoji, it gave me a bunch of options to edit the emoji, like adding an animation, changing the color, and adjusting the duration.

Some of the other AI video editing programs I’ve tried didn’t allow me to animate the emoji onto the video, so I thought this was a nice touch.

Something new I saw in VEED that I didn’t see anywhere else was the ‘Record’ section. You’re able to use VEED to record a video of yourself with your laptop, record audio, or record your screen.

This is a nice way to incorporate these elements directly into your video through VEED instead of needing an outside platform to screen record first.

VEED video transitions

The ‘Transitions’ tab lets you add different transitions between the videos, and it was easy to scrub through the timeline to see how the transitions looked.

VEED transitions

Finally, in the ‘Filters’ section, you’re able to adjust the color grading on the clips used in your video. While they had a wide selection of filters and effects for the video color, I wish you were able to adjust the coloring manually and not have to use a pre-made color filter.

When you export your final video, it adds a watermark to the video if you have a free version. So basically, the free version lets you test the platform, but if you actually want to use it, you’ll need to pay.

The price for VEED is reasonable, but if you’re serious about video editing, then I suggest spending a similar amount on professional editing software like Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. VEED was not the most user-friendly AI platform I’ve used, so you might as well spend a few more hours learning one of the higher-end software.

Otherwise, if you’re creating video content for fun or simple projects, then VEED is able to get the job done in less time!
