What is the Best Whiteboard Animation Software?
1. Videoscribe

It offers a straightforward drag-and-drop workflow that both beginners and professionals will love.

Top Benefits
- Library of over 11,000 images and GIFs, and 190+ royalty-free music and voice-over recordings
- Diverse range of drawing hands and writing utensils to easily customize your video
- Various effects and animation options, like morphs and fade-ins to make the videos more engaging
- Excellent range of sizes, so you can make a whiteboard animation for a website or social media platform
Pricing
VideoScribe has three plans:
- Annual Plan: VideoScribe’s annual plan costs $180 at $15.00/month. This is a 64% discount on the recurring monthly plan.
- Monthly Plan: This pricing tier costs $42.
- Team Plan: VideoScribe doesnโt provide pricing information on its website for the Team plan. You can contact its team and get a discounted team subscription.
My Experience Using VideoScribe
After creating a free account with VideoScribe, they immediately took me to their template page. They had a whole category for whiteboard animation videos, which I thought was very convenient.
I went into one of their templates and started playing around with the interface. They had a lot of pop ups explaining where everything was, which really came in handy.
I found their layout quite interesting as they had the individual scenes grouped on the left side, and on the bottom they had the icons showing of each element in the selected scene. As a video editor myself, I’m used to seeing the elements stacked on a timeline. It only took a few minutes of playing around to get used to this layout.
After I figured out how to add the hand writing effect to different elements in the video, I was surprised at how many options there was to choose from. Although, I found it funny that they used people’s names to describe the hand type as if that’s supposed to mean something to me (haha).
They had all different ethnicities and different types of markers too!
If you wanted to follow along with the template, it was pretty easy to just customize the text and images pretty quick.
If you wanted to create your own whiteboard animation from scratch, that was possible too. It would just take more time to design the slide, find the different images, and add the effects.
VideoScribe also had a bunch of different royalty-free songs you could add under your video – including a way to sort through them.
I also wanted to try one of their social media templates, which turned out to be even easier to edit than the full length video. Every font, color, hand, etc., is customizable, so you really can make any kind of whiteboard animation you want!
VideoScribe Pros
VideoScribe Cons
Bottom Line
VideoScribe is best for small and medium businesses, not-for-profit organizations, educators, content creators, and marketers. The software offers an affordable way to create a whiteboard animation video.
2. Adobe Animate
Adobe Animate is Adobeโs animation software, which is the company that created Photoshop and Illustrator.
You can use it to create animations for games, banners, cartoons, whiteboard presentations - just about any kind of animated video you can dream up. The software supports publishing to any platform, allowing you to reach audiences on any screen.
Overview
This Adobe software has a higher learning curve when compared to the others discussed in this article. Therefore, it isnโt the quickest way to start creating a whiteboard video.
That said, putting in the effort to learn it will pay off in the long run because it’s an incredibly powerful software (like Adobeโs other products).
Top Benefits
- Publishes videos to different platforms, including HTML 5 Canvas.
- Different kinds of animations can be created, like for games and whiteboard videos.
- Access to Adobeโs creative cloud library of stock image and stock video footage assets.
- Supports quick-sharing to social media platforms, like YouTube and Twitter.
- Many video tutorials are available to help new users learn the software as quickly as possible.
Pricing
Adobe Animate costs $22.99/month when you subscribe to it without paying for the other products in Adobeโs suite, or you can get all of Adobe’s apps for $59.99/month.
My Experience with Adobe Animate
When opening the app for the first time, it immediately asked if I wanted to try some tutorials, so I figured why not!
The tutorial took me to the interface and had me follow-along with their steps. It actually was very helpful and after two tutorials I felt like I had a great amount of knowledge on the software.
Animate has different workspaces, so you can find the best one to use at every step of your creation process.
Sadly, Animate does not have any templates to help beginners create a whiteboard video, so this app really is for professional creators who know what they’re doing. That being said, if you wanted to spend a few days learning Animate, I’m sure you could become one of those professional creators yourself!
Adobe Animate Pros
Adobe Animate Cons
Bottom Line
Adobe Animate is best for professional animators and companies that can afford to hire them. Its powerful capabilities mean it has a higher learning curve than most whiteboard explainer video software options.

- Enterprise Plans: Thereโs no set price for the enterprise plans, but you can calculate your price based on the number of users youโll be working with.
My Experience Using Moovly
Now we’re starting to get into the world of AI! Moovly has a few ‘Quick Start’ features available where you have the option to start a new project from scratch, start with a template, use AI to help you start a script and video, or use AI to help you generate a video from your script.
While these options are pretty cool to have, I went with the template for our purposes today.
I was actually surprised they only had one whiteboard template to choose from. Then when I tried to use the template, the customization options were very limited.
So after playing around here, I decided to start a project from scratch.
Despite the template section lacking, I was pleasantly surprised with their video interface. It was super easy to use and I was able to immediately find where to add a hand drawing the text.
Not only can the hand write the text, but it’s also able to drag elements in and out.
As far as hand varieties go, it had the basics! Not as good as VideoScribe, but it will get the job done.
The library in Moovly has a ton of drawings and designs you can choose from. My favorite was this folder called ‘Doodle Marker’ which let the hand draw any of those designs – that felt a lot more professional than only being able to drag photos on.
Also, the timeline was super easy to use and I love how it showed you how long the animation lasted for and you could easily drag the start and stop points to get the length you wanted.
Moovly Pros
Moovly Cons
Bottom Line
Moovly is best for small businesses, agencies, and educators. It offers those users all the tools they need to create stunning animated videos.

- Professional Plan: It costs $179 per month per user (or $92/per month annually).
- Enterprise Plan: Contact the Vyond team for its price.
My Experience Using Vyond
After signing up for Vyond, they took me to their template library to start a project. They had 43 whiteboard templates, which I found quite impressive! Definitely a wider range than most other sites I tested out.
I started editing with one of the templates, and it took me a few minutes to figure out the interface layout. I had to expand the timeline clips with the arrow button on the left side in order to see all the elements under one scene. From there, you could see the effects length as the green bar under each clip.
Every text clip had the ability to add a hand to it. The image above shows the different hand varieties available in Vyond. I’d say this is in the middle range of the amount of hand options that some of these sites had.
Overall, I loved the wide range of whiteboard templates available with Vyond and it was super simple to start editing!
Vyond Pros
Vyond Cons
Bottom Line
Vyond is best for traditional SMEs and fully-remote companies with distributed workforces. Agencies, affiliate marketers, and resellers will also gain from using this amazing whiteboard animation software to create their promotional and explainer videos.

The software also has special prices for students and not-for-profit organizations. You can contact the Animaker support team to find out more.
My Experience Using Animaker
After first signing up with Animaker and looking through their default templates, I was surprised by their lack of whiteboard templates. There was no option to search for a template, and no ‘whiteboard’ section. So, I decided to go the old fashion way and start from scratch!
When I first went into the editor, this tutorial graphic popped up. Each section came with a short video to show you how to get started with the basics. I really enjoyed this easy learning curve to get started.
I started out simple with a character and some text. I was really blown away by how much you could customize a character – everything from their skin color to their facial expressions. You could also change the way they were standing, which was a moving animation, not just a character standing still.
For the text, you could add a whole range of effects, including the hand writing, whiteboard style. For the hand, there wasn’t too many options to choose from.
Where Animaker really excelled was the customization for the characters. In the image above you can see that I could change the color of her eyebrows, clothes, and even accessories.
Even though Animaker didn’t have any whiteboard specific templates, I don’t think they really needed any. Any text and characters could be animated and turned into a whiteboard style video, so you really could have chosen from any of the templates and adjusted as you needed!
Animaker Pros
Animaker Cons
Bottom Line
Animaker is best for entrepreneurs, content marketers, classroom storytellers, and hobbyists.
The software offers many features that let anyone create professional-looking videos (animation or live-action), and its support for HD videos is the icing on the cake.
6. Mango Animate

Mango Animate Pros
Mango Animate Cons
Bottom Line
Mango Animate is best for hobbyists and newer small businesses. The fact that it offers the option of buying an individual license outright makes it one of the most cost-effective whiteboard software options on this list. However, if you’re a Mac user, you’re going to need to look elsewhere.
7. PowToon
PowToon is a free or paid whiteboard animation software that aims to simplify the creation process for corporate video presentations and educational videos.

Top Benefits
- Easy-to-use interface that removes barriers to video creation.
- Hundreds of ready-made video animation templates that help speed up user workflows.
- Design custom characters that fit your brand message (Business and Enterprise plan only).
- Screen and webcam recording capabilities.
- Great user support through webinars, customer support, and a training center.
Pricing
Powtoon has three pricing plans:
- Lite Plan: The Lite plan costs $50/month (or $15 if you pay yearly).
- Professional Plan: The Professional plan costs $190/month (or only $40 if you pay yearly!).
- Business Plan: The Business plan costs $125/month but is only billed annually.
PowToon also has Enterprise plans. Contact the PowToon team for their prices.
My Experience Using PowToon
All of PowToon’s templates were perfect for a whiteboard video, so that was a good start to the program. They had a lot to choose from!
I opened the template in the editor and played around with the layout. It was a little confusing how to find each individual element in the scene, but I figured out that you need to click on the icon under the timeline and drag it to where you wanted it to start in the scene.
You can use the camera button on the top to insert the effects of a camera where you can zoom in on the scene. This was a cool way to incorporate some pro level editing!
PowToon didn’t have a ton of hand variations for their whiteboard styles, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a professional level whiteboard video. You could add a hand to any of the elements on the screen.
Another cool thing about PowToon was their branding options – you could upload your colors and fonts to your account, so that you could update any of your projects to have your branding with just one click. That’s definitely a standout feature if you’re a business.
PowToon Pros
PowToon Cons
Bottom Line
PowToon is best for large organizations, educational institutions, and startups.
Its focus on being a visual communication platform means it’d work best for educating or motivating employees. That said, itโs intuitive enough that just about anyone can use this software.
8. Animatron Studio
Animatron Studio is an online video maker that excels at making explainer videos, whiteboard animations, and more. It has a simple drag-and-drop editor that makes it an approachable application and provides plenty of customization options.
Businesses of all sizes can look forward to a huge library of image and video assets, video templates, and collaborative features.
Top Benefits
- Huge template library.
- Supports real-time collaboration.
- Over 200 pre-made drag-and-drop animated sets.
- Built-in voice-over capabilities.
- Export your files to formats like GIF, PNG, and JPEG.
Pricing
Animatron Studio has three plans:
- A free plan.
- Pro Plan: It costs $15/month.
- Business Plan: It costs $30/month.
Animatron Studioโs paid plans are billed annually.
My Experience Using Animatron Studio
This free version of Animatron Studio didn’t have any ready-made templates to start editing from, so I started a project from scratch. They did have a whole library of pre-made scenes that you could pick and choose elements from.
On the top of the screen above, you can see it’s on a “Lite” version of the interface, but if you switch to the “Expert” tab, you have the option to use a bunch of drawing tools to create your own designs.
The photo above shows the inside of the office scene folder. It contains loads of solo elements that you could use to build up a scene that looks like their office scene, or use bits and pieces to build your own scene.
I loved this because they really gave you an idea of what you could build as inspiration, without taking away any creative freedom from you.
One thing that I really liked about Animatron Studio was that you could have a hand draw anything: the text, the animated characters, the static images, etc. It wasn’t limited to only the text or static drawings like I’ve seen on other platforms.
The only downside is that this is the least amount of hand variations that I’ve seen.
If you just want any kind of hand to draw your video, then this will be fine for you. But if your branding or demographic is very specific and you were looking for a certain gender or race, then this platform wouldn’t be the best one for you.
Animatron Studio Pros
Animatron Studio Cons
Bottom Line
Animatron is best for startups, businesses, and animators. Individuals will also find it helpful to create videos for their YouTube channels and social media accounts.
9. Doodly
Doodly is one of the best whiteboard animation software programs for simplicity. Regardless of skill level or experience, anyone can use it to create unlimited whiteboard animations.
Making videos is as straightforward as selecting an image and clicking and dragging it onto the canvas. Doodly will do the rest!
Overview
In addition, youโre not limited to the built-in images Doodly provides. It uses Smart Draw technology that lets you import your own images and use them in your videos.
The software will pinpoint the images and create custom paths around their edges, allowing for greater customization of how your whiteboard animation video looks.
Top Benefits
- Wide range of drawing hand types with different genders and ethnicities.
- Record custom voice-overs directly in Doodly and automatically sync the audio files to the sketch.
- Includes hundreds of royalty-free audio tracks to use as background music.
- Use your own images and custom drawings in your whiteboard animations with Doodlyโs Smart Draw technology.
- Videos export in formats like MP4 and up to 1080p HD.
Pricing
Doodly has two plans:
- Standard Plan: This plan costs $49/month.
- Enterprise Plan: This plan costs $79/month.
You can try both plans for free.
My Experience Using Doodly
One of the nice things about Doodly is that it’s strictly for doodle/whiteboard videos, so all the templates will be fitting for your needs. They definitely had a lot of templates to choose from!
I was a little confused after first entering the editor because it was different than any of the other layouts I’ve played with.
Although all the scenes were customizable for the text and icons, it was harder to change the entire layout of the scene if that’s what you wanted to do. But they did have a big library of characters and backgrounds to choose from if you wanted to create your own scene.
Doodly also had a big variety of hand options, such as different ethnicities, colored clothing, left or right hand, and real or cartoon hands.
Overall, I enjoyed using Doodly and felt like it was easy to navigate. However, I felt like the style of whiteboard video was quite different than many of the other softwares since it’s strictly a doodle video. If you’re unsure at all about what this looks like, I would definitely go to their website and check out a sample video before purchasing anything!
Doodly Pros
Doodly Cons
Bottom Line
Doodly is best for educators, marketers, hobbyists, and small businesses. Its powerful features provide a straightforward and fun way to create educational videos that students will want to watch!
10. RawShorts
RawShorts is an AI-powered whiteboard animation software that lets you transform your text into animated shorts.
The softwareโs machine learning algorithm scans uploaded video scripts and identifies the main concepts of the videoโs storyboard. Once it knows what the video is about, it assembles image assets that fit the script and generates a voice-over for it.

RawShorts has an animated video maker that makes creating videos as convenient as dragging and dropping elements on the screen. And with a media library that contains millions of commercially-licensed assets, RawShorts provides everything you need to create awesome explainer videos.
Top Benefits
- Turn your video scripts into animations with its AI-powered text-to-animation algorithm.
- Easy-to-use editing tools let you assemble videos in no time at all.

- Wide variety of templates for several video types.

- Business Plan: The Business plan costs $30/month, billed annually.
If you need a smaller plan, you can purchase credits on demand through RawShortโs Pay per Export plans, which start at $5 per video export.
My Experience Using RawShorts
RawShorts had a lot of whiteboard templates to choose from. A few of them were full length videos, but a lot of them were short five second scenes. Once you’re in the editor with your scene, it was easy to drag in another templated scene into the video.
The RawShorts editor looked very similar to many of the other editors on this page. You could customize the text, objects and characters on the screen, as well as adjusting its length and the way it animates on and off.
I really liked how you could have the hand draw on any object or character as well as the text. Not all of the softwares can do this.
RawShorts has a limited variety of hands to choose from, but it might just cover the basics enough to be fine for what you need.
One feature that stood out on RawShorts was their categorized library of characters and objects. The characters were sorted by gender and the objects were sorted by activity. This made is really easy to find what I was looking for. In some other software, it wasn’t sorted as well or the large icons distracted from the categories.
RawShorts Pros
RawShorts Cons
Bottom Line
RawShorts is best for businesses and individuals who want to leverage the power of AI when creating their videos. The software does all the work so you donโt have to, and it produces excellent results.
